The bisernica is the smallest and highest-pitched tamburitza in the family — the instrument that carries the melody in a traditional tamburitza ensemble. With its bright, penetrating tone colour it sits above the whole ensemble and states the main theme.
In our workshop bisernicas are built with a soundboard of carefully selected high-altitude spruce. The back and sides are most often walnut; the neck is maple or walnut; the fingerboard is ebony. The frets are hand-set to a tempered scale, the bridge is cut and voiced individually for each instrument.
The classical bisernica has four strings, but variants exist with different string counts and tunings according to regional tradition. Customers most often choose the standard E-A-D-G tuning, though we also build specific setups by arrangement. The acoustic goal is always the same: a bright, clear tone that carries through the entire ensemble without being shrill.

The Croatian tamburitza tradition dates back to the 19th century, and the bisernica became a symbol of Pannonian musical heritage during the romantic revival. The starting price for a standard configuration is EUR 450; additions such as a special rosette inlay, archival aged wood, a personalised headstock pattern or a hard wooden case are agreed separately. During the specification phase we choose wood, tuning, number of strings, neck ergonomics and every aesthetic detail together — from initials in the rosette to the choice of final finish.

The wood for our bisernica is selected years in advance. Spruce must rest for at least five years under controlled humidity and temperature before it even goes on the bench — growth rings are counted, density is checked by tap-tone, moisture measured electronically. Walnut or maple for the back is sourced from selected European stocks of old craftsmen. This approach to wood selection is why bisernicas from Varaždin endure for decades without losing resonance.
